MUS 200: Topics in Music History: European Music and Culture
SH: 3 Attribute: GEA This course will explore selected periods of Western musical and intellectual development, focusing on the influence of music on culture. Students will develop a foundational understanding of musical styles and selected masterworks by composers and artists. Topics will include contextual orientation to Western art and folk music and jazz history vis à vis European philosophy, literature, and art; introduction to critical listening and evaluation of musical works and performances. Taught on campus fall semester, 2022.
WINTER BREAK 2022/2023
MUS 227: Field Studies in Music

Taught during the abroad, this course is an experiential field study of materials covered in Music 200. Field journals, presentations, and a culminating project will engage students in synthesizing, evaluating and communicating their experiences to demonstrate understanding of historical and cultural forces present in musical expression.

SPST 281: Reentry Seminar: Music in Europe
SH: 1 Attribute: none The reentry seminar is an opportunity for students to articulate the personal and academic learning gained from their study abroad program experience. Students will share their growth and experiences through reflection and writing assignments, directly linked to the Study Abroad Office learning outcomes, of intercultural competence and multicultural professional development, and create a community presentation.
