Anna Van Patten

Where are you from? (Hometown)

Reno, Nevada, USA

Major/Minor

I have a double major in history and performing arts (technical theatre)

What are you most excited to learn and to do while abroad in Scotland & England?

I am most excited to visit castles and museums in both countries and to learn more about Scottish history and the history behind the plays we will be working with.

If you could travel back in time, where and when would you like to go? and why?

Speaking as a history major, I have absolutely no desire to go back in time at all: it’s very dangerous and unkind to female people. If that wasn’t a concern, I would love to study in the libraries of Constantinople before the Ottoman invasion in 1453. The capital of the eastern Roman Empire had been the seat of classical learning for nearly a thousand years, and the loss of its libraries was worse than the loss of Alexandria’s. Consequently, there is so much that could be learned there from the lost works about the people who lived and their progression of ideas and science.

What is your favorite Shakespeare play or character or Shakespeare-inspired film?

My favorite Shakespeare plays are Henry V and 12th Night. My favorite Shakespeare-inspired film is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead which I find absolutely hilarious.

What is your favorite way to express yourself creatively?

My favorite ways to express myself creatively are journaling and writing poetry for myself. I also love dancing (something I started at Principia College) for our campus dance production and with our swing dance club.
