My name is Candice Brinkley and I am a senior in college. I am majoring in Outdoor and Experiential Education, Religious Studies. I am from New Bern, North Carolina. I’m really excited about the geographic location, specifically the forests and water. I also find the religious culture of St. Lucia to be interesting since the majority of people are Christian and specifically Catholic. I’m excited to see how that affects the way people act and think there. I think historical context is one of the most important things to understanding a place. The history tends to impact the current culture and give us a deeper understanding of a place. St. Lucia was colonized by both France and Britain which is likely why Christianity is the dominated religion there. The most meaningful place to me is the Smoky Mountains. It’s such a beautiful place and has so many memories for me. I went there numerous times growing up and got engaged there last August. I’m also getting married there. Overall, it holds a lot of significant memories which is why it’s such a meaningful place to me.
