What intrigues/excites you about the Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina program?

  • I can’t wait to share these three countries with 13 newcomers, to hear their questions and see their faces light up with recognition of things they’ve read about and finally get to see in person.

Where do you most look forward to visiting during our program?

  • I can’t help it. I always love the mountains of Slovenia, but everything else we’ll see is amazing.

What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned about the idea of shifting borders so far?

  • This is the third time for me to lead this trip, and during that time, borders have not become finalized as I had expected they would. Borders are shifty, not just shifting.

For me, the SloCroBoH Abroad is an opportunity to share a part of the world with American university students who probably would never travel there on their own, and if they did, they wouldn’t be traveling having read the literature of the countries and taking in stories of these homelands of shifting borders written by people who live there.
