It&#8217;s actually quite simple.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most traditional desserts contain ingredients such as eggs, butter, milk, or cream. Unfortunately, these ingredients take far more resources to produce compared to their plant-based counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;By making a few simple substitutions, any dessert can become 100% plant-based!<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the Sustainability Club,&nbsp;I proposed&nbsp;the&nbsp;idea to our&nbsp;wonderful&nbsp;Executive&nbsp;Chef (Trey McCartt) and he put&nbsp;the&nbsp;vision into action. I&nbsp;provided&nbsp;recipes&nbsp;sourced online, and our cooks&nbsp;created three delicious&nbsp;vegan&nbsp;desserts!&nbsp;Working with Sustainability Director Karen Eckert, Caia Gillet and I&nbsp;designed&nbsp;outreach&nbsp;posters&nbsp;to inform&nbsp;our peers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_536.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-78 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_536-300x192.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_536-300x192.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_536-768x493.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_536-1024x657.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because at that&nbsp;time&nbsp;I worked in&nbsp;our pastry department Saturday mornings, I had the opportunity to help create&nbsp;our delicious vegan Cookie&nbsp;Dough&nbsp;Bites&nbsp;\u2013 which joined Cherry Turnovers and Pumpkin Parfaits on the weekend\u2019s dessert bar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-64 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530-300x227.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530-300x227.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530-768x581.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530-1024x775.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/sustainablefood\/files\/2017\/02\/fullsizeoutput_530.jpeg 1695w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Theses desserts were not only&nbsp;more&nbsp;sustainable&nbsp;than their dairy-laced counterparts, but incredibly delicious! This shows that living sustainably isn&#8217;t a chore,&nbsp;or even very complicated,&nbsp;it just takes a few small changes that will ultimately make a huge difference.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;At Principia College, you can&nbsp;still&nbsp;find vegan desserts in the Scramble Room and C-Store&nbsp;\u2013 check out Dining Services\u2019 app for details.
