So how <em>real<\/em> is the feeling that you&#8217;re walking in the footsteps of Kafka?&#8221; Not very real, B\u00edlek said, noting, for example, that the &#8220;childhood home&#8221; that tour guides visit is a pseudo-historical baroque building in place of the original Jewish building where Kafka was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/content.principia.edu\/sites\/prague2023\/files\/2023\/09\/IMG_3521-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In his lecture, Dr. B\u00edlek discussed the ways in which the onset of modernity and rapid industrialization at the turn of the 20th Century changed Prague and Kafka&#8217;s sense of self and community within Prague.
