What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Nepal?
The most meaningful idea in preparation for the study abroad to Nepal has been that much of the research done by for example the IPCC is very one sided. The research is done by the global north and focuses on natural sciences. Because of that it leaves out a whole side of the story, which often makes it inaccurate or incomplete.
For me, the Nepal Study Abroad is an opportunity to…get out of my comfort zone, travel the world, learn about a culture different from my own, and learn about the effects of climate change on the people in the region Mustang in Nepal.
What do you want to be better at?
I want to be better at working across cultures, adapting to a different way of life and communicating using my new Nepali language skills.
How does learning about climate crisis in Nepal shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?
I think learning about the climate crisis in Nepal will show me how the actions of people on the other end of the world can impact the people in Nepal. It will show me how the people with the smallest carbon footprint are being affected by climate change in significant ways. I imagine that this might make me think about the responsibility to take action against climate change in a different way.
