Where are you from?
Weiser, ID
What is your major(s)/minor(s)?
Double major in Educational Studies and Global Studies, plus a minor in Studio Art.
What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Italy/Malta?
So far, the most meaningful idea I’ve been working with in preparation for our abroad is to be loving and think the best of people rather than being judgmental. Content-wise, it’s been really meaningful to learn to interpret images, whether it’s a rich piece of art from centuries ago or a photograph snapped seconds ago.
For me, the Italy/Malta Study Abroad is an opportunity to…
I see this abroad as a time to think new thoughts, grow in my ability to work closely with people, and experience life in a very new way. I’m thrilled that we’re going to be immersed in a culture where day-to-day customs look very different from what I’ve grown up with.
What do you want to be better at?
I want to be braver when talking to strangers.
How does learning about storytelling through art and journalism shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?
As we’ve learned in the past few weeks on campus, every painting, sculpture, and architectural masterpiece tells a story about the time it was created in. Just the same, photos and journal pieces tell stories of people and timely events. Now that I know how to better analyze these compositions, I’m learning to create them myself… and I’m noticing stories all around.
