Where are you from?

Guatemala

What is your major(s)/minor(s)?

Digital Media and Journalism with a minor in Studio Art.

What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Italy/Malta?

That art and photography are two mediums well used for storytelling. Visual elements can be compelling things to tell a story. The elements in a photograph or the symbolism in art can be small details that give clues or information of the story.

For me, the Italy/Malta Study Abroad is an opportunity to…

Learn how visual elements and words carry strong messages. Pursuing a career in UX Design involves creating elements that are both informational and visually appealing. Art and its history have given me a good perspective on how we can reach an audience in creative ways.

What do you want to be better at?

Expressing my ideas both clearly and creatively.

How does learning about storytelling through art and journalism shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?

Empowering your style, background, and unique way of communicating things can make storytelling powerful. In order to engage with the world, we have to find creative ways to give a message, and being strategic about it can make it more appealing. Having a background in art can be a good way to learn how artists, who are admired and appreciated until this day, were able to work and make masterpieces with less resources, has changed my perspective on how this generation has more tools and sources to make something creative and special through storytelling.
