Where are you from?

Bellingham, WA

What is your major(s)/minor(s)?

Global Studies and Music Studies majors, Religion minor.

What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Italy/Malta?

The idea that we get to, not have to. We get the opportunity to study, to work, and to play hard. We get the chance to give and to receive, and that what you give is directly correlated to what you get.

For me, the Italy/Malta Study Abroad is an opportunity to…

Expand my understanding of home, and of connection throughout cultures. To learn how to give selflessly, and contribute meaningfully to any community I am in.

What do you want to be better at?

I want to grow my confidence in interacting with people outside of my bubble, and to seek out the elements of storytelling that are intimate and moving. Then I want to learn how to share those effectively with others.

How does learning about storytelling through art and journalism shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?

Storytelling is the way we connect, develop and challenge ideas. It’s the lens through which we can connect our small bubbles of the world to vastly different experiences, and foster humility, gratitude, and compassion. It makes me curious as to what everyone’s story is, and helps me to cultivate the knowledge that people have rich and diverse lives. It is important to tell stories of different people and communities, and makes us more informed and loving global citizens.
