What are you most interested in learning about while you are in Ireland?

By traveling to another country, I am immersing myself in a new society influenced by different political, religious, and cultural phenomenons impacted by an old, rich history of both success and pain. Studying the art, history, and literature of this country will give us an inside look of the success, failure, and resilience of Ireland.

What are you most interested in seeing? Doing?

Hailing from Dublin, California, you would expect me to have some foundational knowledge coming into this trip. This is false. This is a completely new experience, and it will be exciting to be fully immersed in a new culture. I am looking forward travelling with this unhinged company of writers and artists seeking inspiration from the steep Cliffs of Moher, bustling pubs in downtown Dublin, the rolling hills of the Irish countryside, and all of the other breathtaking experiences in Ireland.

Is there a particular course that you’re excited about? Why?

I’m excited about all of the courses I’m taking this semester. Our abroad leaders have meticulously constructed a curriculum that gives us the full irish experience. Some of the things I’m looking forward to doing include keeping an analytical notebook recording interactions and observations of Ireland, learning of the religious and political climate shaped by centuries of history.

What is the thing about traveling to a different country that you’re most looking forward to?

Ireland will be a new cultural experience for me. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the world. The Irish are a unique, interesting group of people, and am looking forward to sitting down and having a conversation with them. Traveling to Ireland will enable me to push myself to seek out the answers on what makes Ireland the wonderful, extraordinary cultural hub that it is.
