Leadership Coach and Critical Educator

Dr. Issac M. Carter, PhD, is a Critical Educator, Leadership and Organizational Learning Consultant, Executive Coach, Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner and Assessor, Cultural Intelligence Facilitator, and Black Male Feminist. He possesses over 25 years of higher education and nonprofit leadership experience. In his administrative roles, he has served as Dean of Students, Chief Housing Officer, Chief Enrollment Officer, and Academic Program Chair for a Master in Social Justice Higher Education, holding the rank of Associate Professor (tenured).

He is the founder and CEO of Coaching Imperative, a human capacity-building company. Dr. Carter works with C-suite leadership, nonprofit executives, managers, marginalized community members, purposeful professionals, educators, students, faculty, and higher education administrators, who share the imperative of building mentally healthy, inclusive teams and enhancing leadership and team performance while cultivating collaborative learning organizations.

Dr. Carter’s teaching and training are deeply rooted in his commitment to our shared humanity. His pedagogical praxis connects knowledge production with systems change to support individuals in becoming informed, engaged, and responsible citizens. His comprehensive transdisciplinary background has allowed him to teach undergraduates and graduate students in Education, Business, Law, Professional Studies, Social Sciences, and Humanities. His course creations over the years include Hip Hop and the Black Experience in America, The Rhythm of Resistance: Music from the Black Diaspora, Leadership and Culture: Building Bridges, and The Art of Leadership.

Issac has been a self-defense trainer for women through the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program. He is the former Florida and California chairperson for the Men and Masculinity Knowledge Community of NASPA.  Self-identifying as a Black Male Feminist, Dr. Carter regularly offers popular education programming to raise awareness and help people work together collectively to address patriarchy, misogyny, and sexism.

Dr. Carter received his doctorate from Florida Atlantic University’s Comparative Studies Program. He earned his master’s in Counseling and Human Service Management from DePaul University. As an undergraduate, he studied at Elmhurst College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology.
