An introduction to the history of philosophy focusing on ancient Greek thought. Students will read a selection of Pre-Socratic thinkers, several Platonic dialogues, and selections from Aristotle.

SPST 285: Country Studies: Intercultural Communication in Greece

Offered only in association with Principia abroad programs, this course provides an interdisciplinary survey of contemporary issues in the destination country or countries. These issues may include geography, cultural history, politics, economics, religion, foreign relations,
environment, the arts, etc. The primary focus of our country studies course will be on intercultural communication in Greece. Intercultural communication is essentially how people create shared meaning across differences. It involves the interdisciplinary study of communication theory and practice, cultural studies, and contemporary issues. The secondary focus of this course is to connect the ideas about logos from the philosophy course during the spring semester with a look at how logos and dialogos are relevant today or how they have impacted modern Greek life and contemporary issues including politics, economics, security,
immigration, media and communication, and cultural expression.

SPST 281: Reentry Seminar: Greece

The reentry seminar is an opportunity for students to articulate the personal and academic learning gained from their study abroad program experience. Students will share their growth and experiences through reflection and writing assignments, directly linked to the Study Abroad
Office learning outcomes, of intercultural competence and multicultural professional development, and create a community presentation.
