Global Studies and Educational Studies

What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Finland?

The most meaningful idea I’ve discovered so far is ‘less is more.’ Taking time to reflect and understand is such a key part or learning that I think is so often overlooked.

For me, the Finland Study Abroad is an opportunity to…

Understand learning/education in the context of another culture that has grown to such success and maybe gain an understanding of how we or I could apply that if I become an educator.

What do you want to be better at?

I want to be better at everything. I genuinely don’t think there isn’t one single thing that I can’t improve on or get better at. I hope that this abroad gives me the opportunity to not learn more but to grow as a person.

How does learning about Finnish education, sustainability, and culture shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?

Learning about Finnish education, sustainability, and culture have shaped the way I view and want to engage with the world in a few ways. I think learning about any new culture and aspects of that culture, such as their education and sustainability systems, brings me closer to becoming a true global citizen, which is my ultimate goal as a Global Studies major. As someone who is also an Educational Studies major, I also believe this gives me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of what a ‘successful’ education system is and how I can apply those themes throughout the rest of my study and into my career.
