What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Finland?
The most meaningful idea that I’ve learned so far in preparation for our study abroad to Finland is that they are mindful about how sustainability and culture thrive when they are embedded together and how their education system is holistic and focused so much on equity.
For me, the Finland Study Abroad is an opportunity to…
get to know systems of a country that is a global leader in many different aspects and see them function in person, as well as a chance to bring the ideas back to our communities.
What do you want to be better at?
I would love to be better at speaking Finnish of course, but it would also be cool to become good at finding ways to implement effective sustainable practices in my life and to be thorough about it. It would also be cool to be able to make a difference in my communities with my new knowledge about the different systems that the Finnish have been able to thrive in.
How does learning about Finnish education, sustainability, and culture shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?
Learning about Finnish education, sustainability, and culture shape the way I view the world because it offers a different perspective of approaching life. We have learned from example that holding core values close can drive your actions, and this can be seen in Finnish classrooms through educators, in the sustainability practices and policies, and in Finnish culture norms. It makes me curious about what other countries value and how they implement them in daily lives as well as overarching government goals.
