Looking into Global Studies
What has been the most meaningful idea you’ve discovered or learned so far in preparation for your study abroad to Finland?
Finns believe that less is more; in their eyes, there is no excuse that validates the overcomplicating of or stress over a situation. As referred to in the story of the Turtle and the Hare, slow & steady wins the race.
For me, the Finland Study Abroad is an opportunity to…
Explore another culture’s history and way of life, connect with my ancestors’ neighbors, feel rejuvenated, practice agency, and discover new passions. In addition to setting a respectful example as a North American diplomat and global citizen, I look forward to conducting in-depth research on the Finnish interpretation of education and sustainability.
What do you want to be better at?
Time management (with equal importance given to both leisure and work), awareness and intentionality of what I take in and dish out, and public speaking.
How does learning about Finnish education, sustainability, and culture shape the way you view, and want to engage with, the world?
I am encouraged by Finnish standards to: address each situation at a sustainable pace, choose focus and trust over stress, and assess whether my perspective is legitimate or in need of further enlightenment.
