One of them, an article entitled <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facultyfocus.com\/articles\/online-education\/online-student-engagement\/five-easy-ideas-that-build-bridges-to-your-online-learners\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Easy Ideas that Build Bridges to Your Online Learners<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, comes from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faculty Focus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a blog published three times a week on \u201cwhat\u2019s working and what\u2019s not\u201d in the higher education classroom, both in person and online. The blogs focus on a variety of topics including teaching strategies, teaching with technology, and blended and flipped learning to name just a few. They\u2019ve also started offering a podcast that\u2019s only 10-12 minutes, relatively easy to fit into a busy schedule.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve only just started exploring their blogs, but what has stood out to me is how practical they are. Each of the blogs I\u2019ve read so far has offered specific suggestions or strategies that can be applied directly to my course or classroom (or for me this semester, the virtual classroom).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few examples:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the topic Effective Teaching Strategies, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facultyfocus.com\/articles\/effective-teaching-strategies\/part-two-of-practical-mid-career-teaching-reflections-classroom-activities-throughout-the-semester\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Classroom Activities Throughout the Semester<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using 1-minute papers at the end of class based on Rosen\u2019s (2016) \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/activelearningps.com\/2016\/01\/27\/muddiest-point\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muddiest point<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d or questions inspired by Lang\u2019s (2016) \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/article\/small-changes-in-teaching-making-connections\/?cid=gen_sign_in\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small Changes in Teaching: Making Connections<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (also accessible through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/page\/frequently-asked-site-license-questions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principia\u2019s subscription<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was there a position taken in today\u2019s class that you strongly disagreed with?<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What did you learn today that you might apply after graduating?<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify a television show, film, or book that illustrates a course concept discussed today.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student \u201cmini-lectures\u201d (7 minutes or less)<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student volunteers \u201cshare an interesting angle on a course theme, recognizing that students may have relevant knowledge and experiences from travel, internships, family histories, or other sources.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The author reports that students appreciate learning new information from other students.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under Teaching with Technology, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facultyfocus.com\/articles\/teaching-with-technology-articles\/a-video-based-exit-ticket-sparks-engagement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Video-based Exit Ticket Sparks Engagement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having students create a video \u201cExit card.\u201d In a statistics class, students were given a problem to solve as a group and asked to create a video explaining how they solved the problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The author reports, \u201cNot only was it helpful for me to hear students discuss <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they approached the problem they were given to solve but hearing their voice inflections and tone provided much more than any written solution ever has in my 25 years of teaching! The video creation became a multi-voiced classroom narrative tool for metacognition.\u201d<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under Education Assessment, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facultyfocus.com\/articles\/educational-assessment\/good-questions-for-better-essay-prompts-and-papers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good Questions for Better Essay Prompts (and Papers)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8 questions to ask yourself (as well as links to additional sources). For example:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does good writing look like in your field? How can you convey this to students?<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you want to read their papers?<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are your grading criteria clear\u2014and thoughtful and reasonable?<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How can you go through the writing process yourself to create the most productive possible prompt?<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And under Online Course Design and Preparation, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facultyfocus.com\/articles\/online-education\/online-course-design-and-preparation\/what-students-want-a-simple-navigable-lms-course-design\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Students Want: A Simple, Navigable LMS Course Design<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014as<\/span><span
