Group problem-solving can be a highly effective tool.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-2613\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Learning Remotely<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2613\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2613\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prinweb.principia.edu\/internal\/college\/remote#ctl\">Principia College&#8217;s Remote Learning Resource page<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0This page has information for the remote learner from many departments on campus.<\/p><h3>Remote Student Learning Community<\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The Remote Student Learning Community comprises both a Canvas \u201ccourse\u201d and a weekly Zoom session. The Canvas course was designed to be a space where Principia\u2019s remote students have a way of feeling connected to what\u2019s happening on campus. It is a one-stop site where they can access resources and connect with CTL faculty and one another. The course contains interactive discussion boards; weekly announcements; and modules with regularly updated links to remote social events, study resources, and spiritual inspiration. The Canvas course links\u00a0 to the Remote Student Learning Community Zoom session, which takes place on Mondays from 4:30-6:00 PM (Central Time). This zoom room is a place where remote learners can just pop in to say hi to each other, or stay on for longer discussions and have a shared space to work together. The CTL\u2019s post-graduate teaching intern, Marie Sherman, manages both the Canvas course and Zoom room and is available to support students\u2019 writing and other academic projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umsl.edu\/services\/ctl\/KeepLearning\/index.html\"><b>UMSL\u2019s \u201cKeep Learning\u201d<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A hub of resources and tools for remote learning that are available to students.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re all trying to figure out this strange and challenging situation together. It\u2019s crucial to determine your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">needs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vs. your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wants<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as we navigate unfamiliar territory. We\u2019re all working at lightning speed to switch to online classes, and everything we want isn\u2019t always possible. Flexibility and patience are required for students and faculty.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communicate your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">needs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> clearly and consistently to your professors and possibly even other students. Rely on each other to problem solve together. Be patient.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheduling a daily routine to keep you on track is necessary with so many new moving parts. Even though you\u2019re working from home, it\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> responsibility to manage your coursework.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask for help early and often. There are tons of online resources prepared to help throughout this transition. When in doubt, Google it out! (Then email your professor if you still haven\u2019t found an answer).<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umsl.edu\/services\/ctl\/KeepLearning\/Staying%20Organized.html\"><b>UMSL\u2019s \u201cStaying Organized\u201d<\/b><\/a><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prioritize daily tasks <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">every morning<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This will help you make sure you\u2019re staying on track with assignments and class schedules.<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Map out your assignments at the beginning of each week so you can get a big-picture view of your workload.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re not sure about the timeline of a specific assignment, check your updated course syllabi. If you\u2019re still unsure, email your professor.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do your best to find a quiet space where you can attend remote classes, study for quizzes and exams, and complete assignments. Try your best to separate this from your \u201cchill\u201d space so that you can maintain a balance of rest and work.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umsl.edu\/services\/ctl\/KeepLearning\/Communication%20Online.html\"><b>UMSL\u2019s \u201cCommunication\u201d<\/b><\/a><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, more than ever, it\u2019s imperative that you communicate with professors early and often. If you\u2019re not sure, ask a classmate, do some research online, then reach out to your professor. We\u2019re all being bombarded with information, so it\u2019s critical that you take time to try to answer your own questions before taking them to someone else for help.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, just like online learning is likely totally new to you, it\u2019s also likely that it\u2019s just as unfamiliar to your faculty members. Have patience. We\u2019re all doing our best, and faculty are working overtime to prepare their courses to move online.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be proactive, and use all resources available to you.
