We encourage you to apply for TEC funds to attend the Lilly Conference of your choice. We will give priority to applicants according to the following criteria: conference prenenters will have first priority, followed by first-time attendees, and then returning attendees.

Please complete the form below by Thursday, November 4th. The committee will review applications based on the stated criteria and will notify all applicants via email to let them know if their application has been accepted.

- Lilly Conference – Pomona, CA March 11-12, 2011

The truly educated never graduate!
Sure sure, being a lifelong learner is a great idea, but how does one pull that off in our current system. If this statement is true then how does one ever finish a class? How should we think about finals in our classes? Do you give exams? Papers? Presentations? A more important question is why you give them and what you hope to accomplish with them? This week at the teaching excellence lunch discussion we will look at how we cross the finish line. If you have any ideas about what works for you come 10th week come and share. If you are looking for some new ideas come and listen.

Another Quarter is coming to a close and we have all worked our tails off to reach this point. This Friday at lunch come and join us in relishing what got us here in one piece. The last drop-in lunch discussion of the quarter is reserved for an open session of sharing about the Metaphysical approach we bring to our teaching and the spiritual growth that is essential to our work. Relax, eat, recharge with your colleagues and give thanks for all that we have. Come join us in the Faculty/Staff dining room this Friday from 12:15 to 1:40pm.

Ontology and FYE

What does FYE really mean?

A) Forever Young Elvis? (a job qualification for a minister in Vegas)

B) Future Yemen Event (a project in a Middle East Politics class)

C) First Year Experience (an avenue to introducing young students to college life)

D) Free Your Ego (a spiritual self-help session with D. Chopra)

Sure sure, we know the answer is C, but what does this mean? FYE has specific goals, but how are we meeting them? Come to this week’s Lunch Discussion to hear from Steve Hinthorne and Heidi Snow on their experience with First Year Experience. They will share the process they used to meet the goals of the program and discuss the merits and difficulties of interdisciplinary teaching. Come join us at the fac/staff dining room between 12:15 and 1:30. Remember Lunch is Still on us.

Are you curious about the answer to the question above? Do you have the answer? Either way you should come to the Teaching Excellence lunch discussion this Friday January 15th. We will review some of the cooperative learning activities presented at Integrated Course Design Workshop and share some initial ideas about how to incorporate them in our teaching. Oppression of the Whole Man

When dealing with processed chicken, any part of the chicken will do. When thinking about our particular style of education at Principia a little more thought is necessary. This week the Teaching excellence group wants to Focus on Education at the Principia with a particular focus on the Whole Man concept. Do all five parts of the whole man get equal representation in the classroom? If this is an academic institution, should the intellectual part of the whole man only get 20% focus? In EAP the phrase “whole man” appears four times. On p. 46 and 52 the phrase “whole man” is mentioned. On p. 69 MKM gives the definition of whole man and on pg. 157 she mentions the “whole man” as socially, intellectually, and spiritually. Come join us this Friday from 12:15- 1:40 in the Faculty/Staff dining room to discuss “whole man” education in the classroom.
