Why Slovenia?

I’m fascinated about what goes into making a nation, and as a relatively new and culturally vibrant country, Slovenia gives me the chance to observe rapid growth in identity and modernity.

What Slovenian landscape feature are you most excited to see, and why?

Karst caves! I love caves. I’ve been spelunking in New Zealand and walked caverns in Iceland and I can’t wait to see what Slovenia’s caves are like – and take plenty of pictures for my geophysicist dad. Like he always says, “It’s all about the rocks!”

If you had your own shield/coat of arms, what four qualities would you choose to represent you?

An angry swan because they are both graceful and terrifying. A computer monitor instead of a shield because I don’t see much sense in pretending to be from a different time period. On the monitor, the motto “Contextualize and Employ” because I enjoy researching and problem solving. Finally, the colors would primarily be purple, red, teal, white, and black, just because I like them!

For me, the Slovenia Abroad is an opportunity to …

Study the history, literature, and culture of a growing nation from academic and personal viewpoints.
