What is the most important and powerful thing the arts have given you?

The most powerful thing that the arts have given me is a sense of Identity. I have spent most of life not knowing who I was, or who I could be, and it has been through my reentry into the arts at Principia that I have had this shift in self-awareness. I feel as though I belong to the creative conversation that occurs between art and society, and I want to use this in order to deepen the love that I have for myself and for all that surrounds me.

When does art become art? Does it have to be verified? Does it have to change something?

Art becomes art when someone labels it as such. When something is deemed “Art,” it doesn’t matter if it is bad or good, or big or small, because there is no ultimate gauge for creative expression. Trying to discern between things being Art or not is a waste of our mental effort. Everything is Art, and Art is everything.  What matters is what we do with this powerful notion, and how we utilize the capability that exists within it to further positivity as a whole within the human experience.
