Academics

A total of fifteen (15) quarter hours and 1 PE credit will be earned on this program during summer, 2010.  In addition, 2 QH will be earned during spring, 2010, and 1 QH will be earned during fall, 2010 (see column to right).  Final grades for all courses will be determined by the program faculty.  Please note that courses shown are subject to change pending Curriculum Committee review and approval.

BNR 245: Natural History: Mongolia

Taught on location during summer, 2010. This course focuses on the study of the natural history of flora and fauna in Mongolia. Ecosystems studied will include: desert, desert steppe, wetland, mountain forest steppe, taiga (forest), and alpine.

Taught on location during summer, 2010. This advanced course covers similar topics to BNR 245 but in greater depth.

GEOL 170: Geology: Mongolia
Quarter Hours: 5               Attribute: GEOL

Taught on location during summer, 2010.  This course covers topics specific to Mongolia, including the Earth’s physical features and mineral and water resources and how they influence human activities in a region.  Other topics will include modern sedimentary environments, tectonic history, special fossil/rock discoveries.  The course is structured around field observations and supported by a textbook and a series of lectures, some of which will be in the field.

SPST 285: Country Studies: Mongolia
Quarter Hours: 5                Attribute: -

This course provides an interdisciplinary survey of contemporary issues in Mongolia.  These issues include geography, cultural history, politics, economics, religion, foreign relations, and the environment.

PE 085: Hiking/Backpacking
Quarter Hours: 0                Attribute: PE

Taught on location during summer, 2010. Designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to fully and safely enjoy hiking and/or backpacking.
